Silver Cross to open Hong Kong store

Silver Cross, the Yorkshire-based nursery brand, is to open its first ever stand alone store in Hong Kong.

The company said it has been making progress in selling its designer and heritage nursery line in the Pacific market over the past few years. Sales increased by 47 per cent in Asia alone from 2010 to 2011 with major growth achieved in South Korea and China.

“We chose Hong Kong to launch our first ever flagship store as it is a major city in Asia that not only has a hugely successful indigenous population but also benefits from a large influx of visitors who trust what Hong Kong has to offer and love to see great British brands,” said Silver Cross chairman Alan Halsall.

“The new Hong Kong store will be an opportunity to support our strengthening brand identity and awareness in the rapidly growing Asian market.”

The store opening in October 2012 will be in the Ocean Terminal Shopping Mall in the centre of Hong Kong

British Brand Must Have Quality and Heritage

The prams, car seats, furniture and toys made by Silver Cross today are the product of 135 years of Great British design and engineering.

Our workmanship remains true to the principles laid down by William Wilson, the founder of Silver Cross, when he made the first perambulator in 1877 – uncompromising quality, painstaking craftsmanship, beautiful and practical design. From 1877, the company developed quality products and sold into markets around the world, but in the 1990s suffered along with many other British companies due to high cost base. In 2002, the company sadly went into administration and I was lucky enough to purchase Silver Cross. I knew the brand still resonated with so many people and would be well worth the effort. With a lot of hard work and attention to detail, listening to our customers and working with a dedicated team, I am proud of the company we have grown into and the heritage that we have saved. We still make the Silver Cross Classic Coach Pram in the hills of Yorkshire and are delighted to be the only company to still make a range of prams in the UK. In a market place dominated by global names, Silver Cross continues to cherish its early traditions, I am proud that Silver Cross is still a truly British business. In October this year we will open our first Flagship store in Hong Kong to promote the Silver Cross name across Asia. We chose Hong Kong as it is a major city in Asia that not only has a hugely successful indigenous population but also benefits from a large influx of visitors who trust what Hong Kong has to offer and love to see great British brands.
